As We Enter Our 2012 SEASON...

Women have been playing football since the 1920s but no longer as halftime entertainment during a NFL game. This is not a sport for the weak minded; it takes self discipline, commitment, enthusiasm and respect.  If you are looking for a multi-million dollar contract to play football this is not for you. If you have a love of the game, and want to be part of advancing the lives of women though sports and physical activity you are in the right place. Did we spark your interest?

‘A team can only progress with love, respect, hard work and dedication. Creating an environment conductive to making positive choices, one in which all can be part of and contribute to for the benefit of the team, self development and the community. Inspire others and the willingness to achieve more as a team. We are the Arizona Assassins, we are a TEAM’.

You know you are curious, so why not challenge yourself to do it? There is no failure in trying, there is only failure in NOT trying. Our preseason begins on January 14, 2012 and we will host four home games and four away games running April through June working to secure a spot in playoffs.

We are about empowering women, outreach in the community excelling in athletics and proving that we can do it!

We will be announcing a NEW coaching staff, NEW administrative staff and recruiting for women who love sports and want to challenge themselves… if this is you please contact us today to learn more.

Wouldn’t you know it, the origin of the word "Assassins" comes from the members of the Nizari branch of Ismaili Muslims during the time of the Crusades when the newly established sect ruled northern Persia (1094–1256). They were renowned as militant fanatics, and were popularly reputed to use hashish before going on their murderous missions.
Well, the visiting women’s football team, the Arizona Assassins, minus the hashish, came to town and lived up to that moniker of being fanatical premeditated murderers; with full premeditation they leveled our So Cal Scorpions, 39-0, Saturday in the Scorpions' home opener at Balboa Stadium.
The most repetitive sound heard from the Press Box: “the Assassins take over on downs!” Of course, the ineptitude of the Scorpions’ offense helped. Their offensive line lost the battle in the trenches. They couldn’t block anyone or open any holes  for their running backs. Over and over came announcements like: “Melissa Torrance stopped for no gain,” or, “Running back Apple Gomez carries the ball for maybe a yard.”
After a team’s running game is shut down, it’s open season on getting after the quarterback. It was rare when Marisa Renteria, the Scorpions signal caller, had enough time to throw or wait for one of her receivers to get open.
Lowest points in the game: After giving up two quick scores in the first quarter, it appeared the Scorpions’ defense had finally settled in and started to hold their ground. With the ball, first and 10 at the Scorpions’ 10, the Assassins’ QB Angel D’rossi, unable to see over the blitzing Scorpions, threw one up for grabs, a pass that hit So Cal’s Crystal Bridges on the numbers. Bridges couldn’t hold on and dropped the easy interception.
A failed run attempt, a fumbled snap, and a holding penalty followed to bring the ball back to the Scorpions’ 18. Once again D’rossi threw one up for grabs and this one was deflected by So Cal’s Tiffany Tomlin. Instead of knocking the pass down, she tipped it up in the air and the Assassin’s Lee Ann Thompson caught the ball for their third score. To make matters worse, the extra point attempt turned out to be a fake and the Assassins scored an easy two point conversion on a five yard pass.
Second low point in the game: With just under two minutes left in the first half and the Assassins up 29-0, the Assassins went with an ill-timed onside kick that failed miserably. Instead of taking advantage of an opportunity to score before the half ended, the Scorpions offense, with the ball on the Assassins’ side of the field, ran one play (with the back-up QB) and let the clock run-out. At that point the Scorpions’ confidence level must have hit an all time low.
Third low point in the game: On the opening kickoff of the second half, the Assassins fumbled the ball and it was recovered by the Scorpions Crystal Bridges at the Assassins' 37 yard line. Instead of moving forward, the Scorpions’ offense went backwards. They began with a 10 yard holding penalty, followed by a penalty for an illegal shift. In the end, the Assassins took over on downs.
The nail in the proverbial coffin came when the Assassins easily scored two additional passing touchdowns and added a field goal for good measure to make it 39-0.
As far as the other San Diego teams, the San Diego Surge (2-0) won their second game 74-0 over the Los Angeles Amazons and the San Diego Sting lost their third in a row, 42-0 to the Silver State Legacy
